On May 10, the Center City Green Market is back for a tenth season on7th Street. Across from Reid’s Fine Foods, the Levine Museum of the New South and ImaginON, the Green Market will be open from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. every Saturday through Aug. 30th.
“When we started the Green Market nine years ago, it was to draw people back into the Center City on the weekends and expose them to our museums and the few restaurants that were here,” said Robert Krumbine, vice president of events at Charlotte Center City Partners.
As always, the key ingredients to this year’s Green Market is its selection of fresh local produce from Creekside Farms, Unity Farms and Greeneman Farms; fresh fish from the Carolina coast and beyond provided by Michael LaVecchia’s Seafoods.com; and fresh-cut flowers from Jefferson Herr, well-known for selling bouquets along Tryon Street. But, over the years, the Market has brought an interesting array of local artists into the family, as well, offering handmade crafts such as jewelry, stained glass and more.
And, for children of all ages, each Saturday at the Green Market offers a special theme with free activities. This year, market-goers will note an emphasis on food-related themes.
